World Oceans Day 2021

Our Oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface. The ocean produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen and is home to most of earth’s biodiversity.

World Oceans Day - first declared as 8 June in 1992 - highlights the benefits we derive from the ocean and raises awareness of the importance of sustainably using its resources. The ocean plays a vital part in who we are as humans, in our identities and cultures. Each year the UN World Oceans day has a dedicated theme, including Our Oceans, Our Responsibilities in 2009 and Clean Our Ocean in 2018.

During the COVID- 19 pandemic, it became apparent to the world just how much we rely on our oceans, enter the 2021 theme: Life and Livelihoods. The 2021 theme focuses on the wonder of the ocean and how it can support humanity.

As a crew who are passionate about maintaining a healthy and clean Ocean for its creatures and the resources we derive from it, we are committed to being a net zero crew and undertaking our challenge as sustainably as possible. To do this our kit will be sustainable using B-Corp Brand associations, we will offset the CO2 produced by our flights and boat logistics and we will also sample the ocean water for a research association to allow study of micro plastics in the Atlantic Ocean.

If you have any suggestions for how we can further improve our sustainability please get in touch.
